Our family adopted a beautiful 10-month old daughter from China.  When our daughter was about 7 years old, we sat down to dinner, which included potato salad I had made from my mom's recipe.  It became obvious during the meal that our daughter loved it.  After getting her second helping, she happily exclaimed, "I'm so glad you adopted me, otherwise I would have never known about potato salad."
